RaspyFi 1.0 in Beta Test

Dear friends,
It has been a month full of work here in RaspyFi, I started alone and now RaspyFi is beginning to take shape thanks to the help of some friends who joined the team. RaspyFi is also being made by its awesome userbase, you guys are so supportive and smart and we’re making our best to make RaspyFi even better. So, there were lot of stuff to do. But we didn’t want to let you wait too long. So here it is, before the RaspyFi version 1.0 will be released, you’ll have the opportunity to test it. Your feedback is very important, as this will help us fix some problems that we didn’t point out.
You’ll find some brand new functionalities, which I think are really awesome.
Here some of them:
-aac,ogg,alac support
-ntfs support
-a web gui (thanks to Andrea, Simone and Piero)
-RAMPLAY mode
-async dac support out of the box in bit perfect
-no more 44/16 resampling
-webradio support
-disabled logging (less space wasted and sd card lifespan improved)
-beets for managing library
-spotify support
-lastfm support
-lots (mean lots) of bug fixed

Feedback: am getting pops and glitches with 24-bit music. Also, when using the CM6631 receiver(Bifrost) there is complete distortion when switching from a 16-bit song to a 24-bit song. or vice versa. Same pops and glitches on UDAC-2.

I also use an Alix board with Voyage MPD and this complete distortion was an issue with the 6631. There was a fix in a new release of Voyage MPD – the daily build for sure uses the 3.8.5 kernel and this solved the issue. Not sure that’s of any help to you but, in the spirit of ‘the more info the better’…..

  I’ll see if I can use them on RaspyFi. Do you use nas? If not, fat 32 or ntfs?

My 4GB SD card seems just a few sectors too small to fit the image. I had no problem with the RC2 image! What to do now? Is it possible to create a smaller image?

  if u download and use USB image tool from here

  make sure your are restoring to the correct drive
  
  goto the tab options, now i cant rem if u need both ignore size checks for gzip and truncate oversized images or just the second one, try it and see. i just ticked both and it worked for me. Hit restore n should work

    I’m not keen on the idea of truncating an image to fit – maybe OK if you know for sure that there is no data/software in the bit that would be missed, but as at best going to lead to addressing errors at some point, or at worst significant software problems

I’ve got the same problem as Maximum – won’t fit on my brand new kingston 4gb card bought specifically to try the beta

H2testw shows card as 3715MByte, 1.0 beta image file is 3790MByte

Does this fit on a 4GB SD card? The image writer says it it slightly too big to fit mine.

  I made from 4gb… Looks mine is slightly bigger than yours (lol)

  If you refer to the webui, well… I’ll let you discover how to find it, it’s included in the beta…

I can use wifi modem Ralink in RC2 version but not in beta test. So I need to install firmware-ralink package for debian to get it work again. Not sure the reason wifi modem firmware has been removed, but I think it would be nice if the offical release support wifi modem

Great stuff – I’ve been looking for something like this for a while. Also, coincidentally, I was looking for an excuse to get a Raspberry Pi! Now I have both and it’s working beautifully. I had to performs a small amount of fiddling to make WiFi work, and also to connect to a Windows Home Server 2011 network share (was made harder as the share name had a space in it!), but nothing too taxing. That’s step 1 complete, step 2 is to get myself a DAC, so I’m going to audition some at a HiFi store at some point soon…

I’m very impressed, keep it up!

I’ve been using GiantDisc for a very long time and have been dabbling with MPD/Debian on multiple platforms for the last 6 years. The current version of RaspyFi is filled with so much awesome it increases my average 192kb bitrate to lossless just by using it

I was using RC2 with a Musical Fidelity V-DAC II (async) and with the usb audio fix it worked like a charme. Then i tried the beta version, but the sound was crackling and noisy. When I swaped SD-Cards back to RC2, the noise stayed. Any idea …?

  Have you enabled samba?
  Did you update the db?
  Try not to use network while playing or wait the db to update before play…

  This is not the final webui, is still in development… This is an early plot… So don’t take it as a final result….
