What a great project this is – let me add on thing to the wishlist, that imho would make any audiophile out there happy: MinimServer (http://minimserver.com/). That way, I could also use your project as a "classic" uPnP/DNLA-streaming Server: Put my High-Resolution flac-files on the USB-Harddisc and MinimServer (similar to Twonky, but way better, easily customizable and lightweight), connected via LAN (or WiFi), streams the audio-data to my streaming client (I do use a LINN DS, control-point is an iPhone with the Plugplayer-App). That way, I would get best of both world in one package: a bitperfect DAC-solution "on the road" or "in the kitchen" and a High-End streaming server for home-use. What do you think?
