Those characters are all replaced with "?" which is a little annoying. I have googled this a lot and one thing that could solve it is to make sure the drive is mounted as utf8. I thought usbmount was used but the mount paths in /ets/usbmount/usbmount.conf are /media/usb* while the usb drive is mounted at /mnt/USB/usb1. So I guess some other program is used for mount it? In that case, where can I configure the mount options to make sure it is utf8?
I am a Linux newbie so I hope this makes any sense.

Hmm, maybe in the /etc/fstab file. You should be able to provide the right options there.
But it does not look like the usb drive is mounted from /etc/fstab.

RaspyFi uses autofs, so the file you are looking for is located in /etc/auto.master , then auto.usb and auto.nas
Let me know!

Thanks!
Changing the first line in /etc/auto.usb from
usb1 -fstype=auto,sync :/dev/sda1
to
usb1 -fstype=auto,iocharset=utf8,sync :/dev/sda1
solved it.
Now everything works perfect.
