Hello!
Everything is running perfectly, but not by using a network share. Then there are crackles between every two to every five seconds if I listen to wave files. By mp3 files it will be a bit better. Using a usb stick or a usb harddisk it is without any crackles.
I have changed the raspberry, the firmware, the sound card, the power supply, the sd card, the router, the network share, the music. Some more ideas?
I didn't find any actual idea in internet. Why this Problem is only with me?
Thanks for your help,
Klaus

Hi
It's not just you, I have exactly the same issue playing from a network share.
I only get the issue with wired Ethernet and it seems to correspond to the beginning of a bust of data. If I copy the music file to the ramdrive it plays fine. If I play from ramdrive and copy another file to the ramdrive while the first is playing the problem returns.
My solution was to switch to wireless which doesn't seem to have the issue. But I am struggling to get it to boot up with wireless without having a wired Ethernet connection as well.
Cheers,
Phil
Same problem here !
I tried to switch to NFS and it seems better, but not perfect.

Hi Klaus,
Well after a failed google search I found the all answers I need on this forum.
The NAS network issue is known and may be improved by tweaking rsize and wsize
http://www.raspyfi.com/forum/r…..-playback/
and my booting to wifi with no wired connection was fixed by this post
http://www.raspyfi.com/forum/r…..with-wipi/
What a great forum!
I get less problems with wifi – but I am not sure it is perfect. I shall have a play with rsize and wsize and see if it helps my with setup.
Cheers,
Phil
I have found that there is a different with 16bit & 24 bit DAC
I have tried to connect Audioengine D1 and Behringer UCA-202; the UCA-202 which is 16 bit doesn't have any crackle sound at all!

Thank You everybody for your fast replies! Nice to hear that it's not only with me! But right now there is no perfect solution in sight.
Some more information about my tests:
The problem ist also with hdmi sound, not only by USB-DAC (cheap Sabre 9023+PCM2706).
To use a WLAN-USB-stick was much more bad than before, because on many crackles in one second all the time.
The rsize and wsize were already on 2048 and 4096. To edit auto.nas manually I get always an error message. But anyway, after reboot I've tried 32768 and later 131072. 131072 was more poor with me. I don't know why, so I'm using 32768 right now. Better than all before, but not perfect with the wave files. For using vbr-mp3 it will be good enough for me. I will try for a while! Thank you!
But at all I don't want to forget to say Thank You for doing this job with Raspyfi! I'm sure the last problems will be solved soon! For me are some perfectly working features much more important than some games which I never need! Please hold it easy, right now!
Greetings,
Klaus

Small additional information to my last post:
Now I found the possibility to change rsize and wsize whitout editing the Auto.nas via 'Show advanced options'!
Then there are no error messages!

The Problem is not solved, only reduced for one crackle in around 5 minutes! If you have another Information, please let me know!

I found two things to help, but not totaly solve the problem
1. resetting the nas and enforcing it to remount and index all it's files
2. I noticed that when the home network is buesy the problem shows (playing IP VOD on another pc in the net)
I use Goflex nas and sabre 9023 usb dac

Nice to help someone with the same problem like me:
@Michael: In webinterface please use 'Settings' in the right top Corner and choose 'Database'. Then click on one of your 'NAS mounts'. You will find 'Show advanced options' down on this site. There is 'rsize' and 'wsize' where I'm using 32768.
About my NAS problem, it is the same problem by using my powerful Windows computer using a share. So there is no reset necessary. You are right, if the network traffic is high (or the cpu load of the raspberry) the crackles will rise up.
I wonder again, that there are no more users with the same problem. If there is no better solution I will try another OS or PulseAudio. But I like this one here! So I'm a bit sad to change…

To show that I like this project, I was spending a few 'donuts'!
On the other hand I've tested XBMC and there is no crackling by using NAS! My knowledge of Linux is too bad to try the same with the normal Raspbian. So I'm not sure, if the problem is by using mpd or samba or something else.
Because generally I like RaspyFi, for the next time I live with this problem or I will change to a usb harddisk.
If someone has an idea, why not everybody has this problem or if you have any other possible help, please let me know!

@Michael:
Do you use 100MBit or 1GBit LAN? Do you changed the packet size? I have changed it to something with 8kB and I'm using 1GBit at my both network shares. May be this is the problem?

Now I'm using a usb harddisk and everything is fine! Time to close this thread.
Users with some knowledge of german language are invited to look also at my site at

Thank you Michelangelo!
