Hello!
I've set up the following audiophile equipment:
Raspyfi1.0 + Exposure DAC 2010s2 + NAS Synology 212j.
Features of the Exposure DAC are:
3 coax inputs 32KHz to 192KHz, 16 to 24 bits.
2 optical inputs 32KHz to 96 KHz, 16 to 24 bits
1 USB input 96KHz 24 bits FIXED.
The chipset employed seems to be Wolfson 8742.
The point is that, once the DAC is connected to the raspberry and I try to play FLAC files from the NAS (the raspberry is connected via rj-45 to a 1gb-switch that interconnects with the NAS and other devices at the LAN) it starts playing but with many small cracks that make the listening experience quite annoying.
I have modified the mpd.conf with nrpacks=1 parameter, I have also edited my etc/auto.nas to be access directly to the shared folder and I have changed the rsize and wsize to 32768, but yet the cracks are there. I have tried the different kernel profiles and nothing changes. What really worries me is that it happens both with files stored in the NAS and with radio stations ([email protected], DeepMix.ru) so I'm starting to think that it could be something related with the DAC instead of an internal configuration of the raspberry?
The last thing I still have to try is using wifi connection instead of rj-45, which I have read somewhere that it kind of introduces "noise" in the bitstream, right?
Please, some help is needed. I spent a step up of money in Exposure DAC considering that it was worth and now I realize that it cant manage working with raspyfi…
Regards and thanks!
1 USB input 96KHz 24 bits FIXED.
This could be the roots of your issues…
Please, report the output of the command:
cat /proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/sub0/hw_params
with various bitdepth files. example, one 16/44 one 24/96, one 24/192
Thanks for the answer!
Right now I have only 16bit, 44,1 KHz FLAC files on the NAS. Playing them, cat command reports this:
access: RW_INTERLEAVED
format: S24_3LE
subformat: STD
channels: 2
rate: 96000 (96000/1)
period_size: 12000
buffer_size: 48000
Playing the 128k stream of [email protected] webradio – it displays 24bit, 44.1KHz and 128kbps at the playback display of raspyfiGUI, it also reports:
access: RW_INTERLEAVED
format: S24_3LE
subformat: STD
channels: 2
rate: 96000 (96000/1)
period_size: 12000
buffer_size: 48000
Does it shed any light? I'm still in 2-week period for changing the DAC at the store…
By the way, when executing alsamixer, it recognizes DAC Exposure 2010s2.
In case you tell me that the problem is with the specifications of the Exposure's digital input: 1 USB input 96KHz 24 bits FIXED, I will get it back to the store and ask for another model. Which one do you recommend me in that case? (in the same price range of 1000euros).
Thanks for the help!
