Hi,
I really like the concept of Raspyfi, transforming a Raspberry Pi in an audiosource, and I would like it to work.
I downloaded and flashed the software on my Raspberry Pi and hooked it up to my Schiit modi.
But I encounter a lot of small and big problems to such an extent that Raspyfi is not usable.
So, within the meaning of, don't ask what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country:
What can I do to help solve these problems?
The problems I am facing are:
1) losing network connectivity at random, still able to ssh, but the web gui is not reachable, music stops playing
2) not able to set up a wifi connection (Edimax EW-7811Un), not manually and not via gui (web sometimes showing wifi settings, but not always).
3) not able to connect to a NAS (samba), that is: not always.
4) not able to connect to http://Raspyfi/ but only via an ip number.
I have tried this with two raspberry pi devices / sd cards / power supplies, but I am not able to get a working, stable Raspyfi.
How can I be helpful to solve these problems?
Is there a way to be able to log these network problems, if so, how? Are there other logs I could provide?
Best regards,
H
1 – Most probably MPD crashed. Have you already connected a usb-drive with music? Apparantly there is still a bug in RaspyFi 1.0 that, with some unknown tag-types in music, database update stalls and MPD crashes.
2 – Did you use the Wifi setup guide and update wicd-curses? The Edimax should work fine.
3 – No idea. Are the ports open?
4 – Same problem here, haven't found out why yet. I don't think setting up a static IP is required for this.
Ok. Thanks for your ideas PaulM,
1) No I haven't connected a usb-drive jet. Just a naked install and trying to play webradio. (If that works, then connect a samba nas, edimax wifi etc)
2) Yes I have done the wifi setup guide:
sudo apt-get update (this takes a loooong time)
sudo apt-get install wicd-curses
sudo wicd-curse
And then fill in the details. The wifi worked for a while…
(I did once made the mistake to upGRADE the raspberry, that did took a while to figure out to don't do that)
I have fumbled with different network cables, different ports on the router, router reboots, force a new release dhcp, but to no avail. Apart from what I had already done: different SD cards, different raspberry pi, other oversupplies.
So now I have made a new flash on a SD card and attached only a network cable, usb cable to the schiit modi and a powersupply. Plugged in the power and: nothing! No ssh, no sound, no webui. If I ssh to the ip number it earlier had, it doesn't refuse the connection, which it would do if there is no device on that ip number, but it just doesn't connect.
Then I took a long shot and moved the raspberry pi away from the speakers (audioengine a5+, so active speakers), so there is now a distance of one horizontal meter between the pi and the speakers. I plugged in the pi and it worked. Sound (webradio), webui, ssh: just working.
The only other difference with the first setup is that I used another wall-socket for the powersupply but I can't imagine this would make any difference.
So I leave this setup playing for a while and see if it is stable, that is, if it keeps playing.
I will leave it playing for a day and report back about this.
If someone has more profound info (other than the long shot I did, 'let's take one meter') about distances between a raspberry pi and speakers, I would be happy to hear for you.
Best regards,
H
NOPE. Moving the raspberry pi away from a speakerset makes no difference. The music stops playing after a few (2 a 3) hours, ssh is not working, webui is not working. Well, I said it was a long shot.
I'm stuck.
Raspyfi is not working and when it does it is not stable.
And I don't know what to report other then that it doesn't work.
What are your experiences?
Is raspyfi working, and is it stable in your setup?
Hope to hear from you,
Best regards,
H
I am far from an expert on RaspyFi..
1 – Then I have no clue. Maybe some of the more experienced guys can help out here. Do you have a stable powersupply? (although then I think you would expect the Pi to crash altogether, not only MPD).
2 – The EW-7811 is tested with the Pi and should work. I also use it.
Apart from that I am clueless.
My setup is a Pi, powered by the ModMyPi usb-hub, Edimax dongle in the Pi's usb-slot. Samsung G2 portable hdd and Schiit Modi DAC connected to the usb-hub. The first few days MPD crashed a few times, once the Pi crashed altogether. But it has been running smoothly now for more than a week.
The only thing I can think of is the SD-card you are using. You can find a list of all the SD-cards that are compatible with the Pi here: http://elinux.org/RPi_SD_cards…..SD_card.3F
Remarkably, picking a well-known brand does not guarantee success.
