Bit of an oddity.
Currently playing with 3 Pi.
Pi1 = Original Pi (B) currently running RC2 quite happily in my hifi
Pi2 = Original Pi (B) that I want to run 1.0 Beta on
Pi3 = MkII Pi (B) that I'm borrowing
Due to my significant lack of linux admin skills, I try and keep projects simple and separate as I know the chance of me messing up is huge. So, rather than install on Pi1 and risk ending up with no music, I'm planning to get Pi2 working first then swap them over.
Problem is that when I run up Pi2 with the 1.0Beta image (I've now got an 8Gb card!), the wired ethernet doesn't start so I can't log in over the LAN to configure it.
A few tests have showed…
Pi2 + Raspian – LAN OK
Pi2 + Raspyfi Beta – No LAN
however…
Pi3 + Raspian – LAN OK
Pi3 + Raspyfi Beta – LAN OK
So the LAN comes up fine on one Pi running Raspyfi, but not the other. But Raspian brings the LAN up fine on both so there's nothing wrong with the Pi itself.
Any thoughts?
Quick thought – is the development Pi a 256Mb Rev1 or a 512Mb Rev2?
I've found that Pi1 behaves exactly the same as Pi2
Thanks Gyp for reporting, the dev pi is a 512 rev b. I suspect that modules are missing, or maybe there's not enough ram for the lan to boot…
Could you please comment /run/shm in /etc/fstab ?
Thanks again…
The line with /run/shm has been commented, and LAN still not up.
checking dmesg shows the LAN being brought up on the rev 2 board but still not on the re 1 board.
Are there are logs you'd like me to post or email you (assuming I can work out how to get them off of a pi that isn't connected to a network)?

Got 2 Original Pi (B) runnin on Raspyfi Beta, one on Lan, Music from Synology Nas, Output to Cambridge DacMagic, the other on WiFi, Music via USB-HD (NTSF), out to ODac.
Both using 8GB SD (Sandisk, 30Mbit/s)
Both working without trouble.
BTW Thanx for the fantastic work, never knew Linux was able to play real music
Gyp, this is a proof that current RaspyFi could be only excecuted on rev2 models… I will try to order the first version and look what is happening…
Try to do this:
sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list
addi this line
deb http://mirrordirector.raspbian…../raspbian/ wheezy main contrib non-free rpi
then save and exit
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
Please note that this could break the system, but since it doesn't work.. Not too much damage here… At worst you reflash the raspyfi image
I will try this tomorrow night.
A thought (to simplify for me) – can I do this with the card in the Rev 2 then put it in the Rev 1 to try it or do I need to do this in the Rev 1?
A quick update on the forum…
I discovered yesterday that (using a clean download of the beta ) the Ethernet connection had connected after being left for a period of time, and on subsequent reboots the Ethernet is coming up cleanly.
At that point however, swapping in the pi that had previously been fine, that didn't now work. It seems that once the pi is connected, that one will reconnect without problem but others will not.
I'm beginning to suspect the issue is more to do with the router than the pi, so will start investigating in that direction next
I'm struggling to reproduce this reliably (my time experimenting is limited), however I've now set up the wifi and used a fixed IP (on the Pi) on an address outside the router's DHCP range, and the Pi I want to use is reliably connecting to the wireless on boot.
As I've got a working Pi that I can connect to over the wireless using putty I am progressing and now struggling with another problem
I can't mount my NAS as I could with RC2. Best i go over to the other thread and see how I get on!
Gyp, for mounting the Nas you should use automount.
Do it:
sudo nano /etc/auto.nas
and edit the conf as you did! This works!
Maybe I got it.
Do this
sudo rm /lib/udev/write_net_rules
sudo rm /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules
and reboot
