I've been using the beta for a while now and I think it is working very well for a beta. Love that it can stream radio.
I'm a bit stumped over the clients though. Can't seem to find one that has it ALL. Auremo on Windows is the one that I use now and it has most of what I want. Much worse on my Android Tablet, nothing I've tried is really up to par. But…that has nothing to do with Raspyfi, and yet it does somehow.
I have a question though. When i add a folder of music, like a new album i.e not that many files, it takes forever for the files to materialize and being able to be played. Is that Raspyfi or the Pi in it self?
You'll be pleased with the Webui that is coming…
As for the problem of updating the Db this is a mix of samba, pi and ethernet issues…

Hi folks,
I can tell you: It sounds great! Really.
But step by step:
Usb-dac (micromega mydac) arrived some days ago. A good opportunity to play a little with raspyfi-beta.
First: raspyfi seems to be something, I'm looking for allready for a while. In the meantime, audiophile usb-dacs are available for interesting price-tags. While audiophile hardware network player are still quite expensive. So raspyfi can be the missing link.
Installation was no big problem (for a noob like me). And is sounds really great. Never thought I could pimp up the sound quality of my 20 years old audiophile stereo so much by adding two little plastic boxes. I hope i can do some more extensive listening next time to compare 16/44 vrs. 24/96 vrs. 24/192, feeding the dac via cd-transport vrs. raspyfi vrs. linux-netbook etc. an to enjoy music of course.
Because I'm looking for some kind of network player for my music-collection, I testet especially flac playing over LAN. Webradio and RAMPLAY not tested yet.
My setup:
– raspyfi-beta with NAS-fix from the Beta-thread
– usb-dac: micromega mydac
– usb-storage: old no-name 4 GB stick
– nas-storage: samba-share on my Bodhilinux-pc
– client: gmpc on the same pc
– Network: LAN 100Mbit, alternativ DLAN/Powerline 200Mbit
– files: flac, 16/44, 24/96, 24/192
Playing from usb-storage works fine up to 24/192.
Network-playing seems to be a little sensitive if samba share stream is a little instable.
LAN directly wired from the same LAN-switch sounds fine up to 24/96. 24/192 has very slight but constant clitches (May be for the analogue feeling of high-res .
LAN wired with DLAN works fine with 16/44, with 24/96 or 24/192 one gets more and more disturbances.
Issue with all resolutions: occasional interrupts every some minutes for a few seconds. More often with increasing bitrates.
So the raspyfi-sound is really great. I hope, you get the samba-issue fixed. By the way: DEADBEEF plays the same 24/192-files via the same DLAN from the same samba-share on my daughters old Acer Aspire One 110L netbook without any problems. So there should be a solution for raspyfi too. Unfortunately a noob like me can't find it.
Thank you for all the work you've done until now and good luck for the final.
Thomas
Hi Thomas,
your post made me really proud… I do understand the glitches and I can tell you they are due to Pi's hardware limitations… The next release (hope comes soon, almost there) will help in this way. But we are porting RaspyFi to more powerful platform and results are amazing… Stay tuned and enjoy your music!

Which hardware do I need to order already?
I hope days… Finger crossed in the weekend…
As for the hardware, you'll have a big surprise… So just a little patience…

Hi Mike,
thank you for quick answer.
For me, beeing no computer-expert, it is difficult to understand, that rasp's hardware limitations are the deciding problem. 24/192 via usb-storage works smoothly and sounds fine, no glitches, no interrupts, just fine.
While LAN uses the same rasp-interface as usb, the data-rate should not be the problem. OK, may be for 24/192 via LAN with some samba overhead the hardware may be the reason for the light glitches. But not with 16/44 or 24/96, and not for the occasional interrupts.
To my mind (beeing no expert) the interrupts with 16/44 and 24/96 seem to be a problem of handling and buffering the samba-stream.
And another aspect:
For daily use it is 16/44-flacs. That works fine on LAN. No glitches, only issue are these occasional interrupts.
Somtimes 24/96 may be nice, but issues ar the same as for 16/44.
24/192 is top-class sport. It is delighting, but for the next years may be not the format for every day use. I just calculat: to substitute my 500 cd's by 24/192 flacs … storage, payed downloads … omg!!! So for the next time occasional listening to 24/192 on usb-storage works fine, no LAN needed.
What do i mean?
Playing 16/44 and 24/96 on the rasp via LAN without that unterrupts would be great.
Playing 24/192 would be nice too, maybe a more powerfull platform is needed.
But these are a complete laymans ideas. (I allready can heare you consenting )
My idea for workaround so far: playing from usb-storage and try to install a samba-server on the pi just to fill the usb-storage via LAN, no file-sharing etc.
I wish you good luck for raspyfi and allways some time to enjoy music.
Thomas
PS: just read your last posting. Weekend is near. So let's be patient.

Let me think…….a Broadcom VideoCore IV GPU ?

Hi mike,
yes, I'm patient.
But it ist weekend and I got some time to play.
So I have to admit, that you catched me on the wrong foot.
24/192 clitches also via usb. On low level, like a good old turntabel. Heard it just listening to some quiet jazz stuff. So may be therefor a more powerfull platform is needed.
But:
I allready told about my suspicion that buffering could be the reasen for the occasional interrupts by playing via NAS. So I chanched mpd.conf to
buffer_before_play "0%"
And: Bingo!!!
No more interrupts playing LAN. Both 16/44 and 24/96.
No clitches, no interrupts, all fine for 16/44 and 24/96, on usb and on NAS. So therefor pi is all you need.
That's a lot. May be for me that's all.
Okay, now let's be patient waiting for the final.

Hi and thanks for all the time and energy! I really love the concept have one problem though: I cannot adjust volume via any mpd client nor the web interface. I can do this with alsamixer though. Any ideas how to fix that?
Oh and I could not figure out how to activate airplay. Any hint would be very appreciated.

I still hope it will be the Beaglebone Black – been looking for an excuse to get me one of those for a while

Hi Max, this can be done by changing the mpd.conf, just search the forum:
http://www.raspyfi.com/forum/r…..r-problem/
having said that, I was able to get the volume control to work on the RC2, but now with 1.0 Beta, I editted the mpd.conf in the same way, but am not able to get the volume control to work…… with Alsamixer volumecontrol works, so it must be a configuration issue.

Thanks voorstad,
I edited mpd.conf without success. Is there an equivalent to /etc/asound.conf in raspyfi?
I also noticed in the web interface that the buttons in Output interfaces and Service satus are not doing anything. No big deal but maybe a bug?
Cheers,
Max

The webinterface is not working in this release, take it as an easter egg…
This looks very, very prommising! And also a compliment on the design of the interface its verry stylish an simple. I can't wait to test the new version!!! I also hope the usb problem (i use a HiFimeDIY Sabre USB DAC. 96khz/24bit and have ordered a HiFimeDIY Sabre U2 Asynchronous USB DAC) is definitly a thing of the past???
Great work!!!!
