hi,
I downloaded the raspyfi so works fine..I wonder if I can install shareport on the console I see when my pi boots? would that then allow me to either use the webGUI to play music on local storage or stream live from an iphone, ipad,PC,etc?

Yes, it is possible to install Shairport (this is how it is spelled correctly), and it runs just fine.
You can connect to the Pi via SSH console and do all the install and command prompt stuff.
Simply follow the instructions here (from "Installing the prerequisites" on): http://www.raywenderlich.com/4…..y-tutorial
You'll want to stop or start the shairport process (it's a perl script); this is done via a shell script which can be triggered by a PHP script which in turn can be called from another device in the network via HTTP Get.
