After a bit more fiddling I got the wifi working on the Netgear WNA1000N. By running:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install rpi-update
sudo rpi-update
sudo apt-get install cifs-utils

I am no expert in this sort of stuff, therefore not sure what effect this has on the rest of Raspyfi. Just glad I have wifi now.

Using 1.0 Beta

I too on a brand new build of the new 1.0 release had to do the same steps
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install rpi-update
sudo rpi-update
sudo apt-get install cifs-utils
sudo wicd-curses

I did the
sudo apt-get install firmware-atheros
prior with no luck on its own

Using the Panasonic wireless lan adapter n5hbz0000055
Which is the same as the Netgear WNA1100 inside

Getting closer to my Portable Raspyfi system. Just requires a hotspot from my phone right now to connect MPDroid would be nice to just have a Ad Hoc connection directly to the wlan0.
